From the Principal

Term four is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the school year, with many events and functions on our school calendar!

Our MADD performance of 16th October received terrific reviews. Many thanks to our hard-working Arts Department! Particular thanks to Ms Kym Beattie and Ms Monica Vernon for overseeing this very successful and entertaining event. Parent-teacher interviews were held in the hall on 22nd October 2015, and on Friday 23rd we hosted our annual Full Employment Education and Training celebration. Senior students also undertook training in CPR while the junior students experienced a school-funded drama performance by Grin and Tonic.

On Friday 30th October we will celebrate World Teachers, Support Staff and Volunteers Day. We also very much look forward to our Annual Sports Awards night in the school hall on 4th November, and on 11 November our Art Expo and Awards Night. In week 6 we farewell our terrific year 12s with their Formal (18 November) and Graduation (20 November). We also have P&C meetings (venue changed to the Staff Common Room) at 7:30 pm on 4th November and 2nd December. All welcome!

We are finalising completion and sign-off of our newly-built $1.2 m Sports Centre and expect to receive official handover in the next week or so.

Additional Reporting

In order to give students timely feedback in terms of achievement, effort and behaviour, additional formative report cards will be issued to students at every mid-term. These reports are to give indicative results only of the teacher’s perception of your child’s academic standard, as well as providing most recent information regarding effort and behaviour. Please take this opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, and please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for more information. These reports will be issued to students during week 6 (11-13 November).

Year 12 Graduates – Fee-free Training in 2016

To support Queensland’s Year 12 graduates to successfully transition to employment, the government is offering fee-free training in high priority qualifications identified by the Queensland Government and industry groups.

Fee-free training gives Year 12 graduates a head start on their careers by allowing them to complete a high priority qualification through an apprenticeship, traineeship or selected vocational education and training course without the financial burden of student contribution fees.

Lyn Anderson from CQ University visited the school this week to provide information to students interested in studying a vocational qualification in 2016. Students interested in this opportunity need to see Mrs Crow in A wing.

MADD Spectacular 2015 at the Pilbeam Theatre

On Friday the 16th of October, over 160 students from RSHS and from Allenstown, Bajool and Stanwell performed in the annual MADD showcase, this year titled the MADD 2015 Spectacular. Many student participants commented that they will remember the experience forever for the fun that they had and the friends that they made. Numerous RSHS students remarked that they had really enjoyed mentoring and working with the Primary students as it gave them a further sense of achievement and responsibility. This valuable opportunity eases the transition for many younger students from Primary to Secondary school. Congratulations to all students and staff involved! Your hard work, dedication, creativity and talent made for a fast-paced, energetic and exciting show. We received excellent audience feedback for this years’ showcase.

Early Departure from School

Parents are reminded that the procedure for releasing your student early is as follows:

  • Send a note with your student requesting an early departure from school.
  • In an emergency a student can be located but depending on the whereabouts of your students this cannot always be achieved in a short time.

If your student has an unexpected appointment that arises during the day, please advise the school at least an hour before the appointment.
